Here is the final list. Mods from all of the forums took part in the discussions that resulted in this list. There were lots of good candidates and an attempt was made to be as comprehensive as possible. Board membership, length of involvement, geographic location, theme interests, and activity level were all taken into account in trying to get as broad and representative sample as possible for the pilot group.

IF YOU WERE A "CANDIDATE" AND NOT SELECTED, YOUR NAME HAS BEEN PLACED ON THE ALTERNATE LIST. IF, FOR ANY REASON, AN ELECTED MEMBER CANNOT CONTINUE FOR THE SIX MONTHS, AN "ALTERNATE' WILL BE ASKED TO TAKE HIS OR HER PLACE IN THE TEST PROGRAM AS A MEMBER OF THE PILOT GROUP.

The Pilot Group members will be asked to elect a member for each forum as a "reporter". The "reporter" will be posting a "progress report" on their forum about every other week to keep the Playmobil Community informed.

Please send Richard a PM if you have any questions. After the six months test program everyone will be invited to become members of the official Playmobil Collectors Club. Thanks to everyone for your help and for participating in this very difficult selection process.

There were over 160 names on the master list I saw, and that is far too many for a pilot. Some selection process was needed and it wasn't left entirely to Richard. All boards are represented and a wide range of themes, maybe all themes (I must admit I have had too much else to do to check).
I'm just expressing what has been expressed to me. A name out of a hat would have been another way of choosing. The whole process has been about making people want / feel good about being chosen for the pilot, and making everybody else feel they have lost out in some way.

As I've already expressed in the other thread, people keen to be a member of the club need not worry about being in the pilot or not - unless they have concerns about 1) whether this cliqueness will have a long term impact on how membership of the Club is viewed ; - and 2) whether pilot members will treat newer members differently once the club is up and running. Members joining after the pilot may bring new and different perspectives, and pilot members will need to be open to this if the club is to grow healthily.

To sum up, there will need to be an openess to 'new blood' and to a membership which isn't decided by owners or moderators (a cause of much friction on Playmoboard)- but open to everybody who wants to join. I'm sure many people wish this - not just Geobra and Mr Brandstatter.

I therefore do hope that the whole process has just been about cutting down 160 volunteers to the number needed and that my concerns about exlusivety of membership are groundless.

A good bit of thought went into the selection process to take account of such criteria as including parents with children (and who buy for their children!), including members new to the board as well as long-standing members and including members who can bring specialist knowledge to the Club. Looking at the amount of work involved and my limited time, I'm glad to be not in the pilot group.

I'm committed elsewhere, and therefore couldn't do it even if I wanted to, but I also tend to agree with the views expressed by the person you quote in your Playmofriends signature

That's an original quote by me, and unfortunately I haven't really learned to follow it yet!

Am I the only one around here who hasn't stepped forward to be in the pilot group and who isn't lying awake every night to see what will happen next with it?
To be honest, I don't know what this entire 'club' will bring. If it'll mean you get the new catalogues directly sent to your house the moment the are printed, count me in!
If it means you can get 'exclusives' from other countries ordered by mail or internet; count me in.
If it means an e-mail when new sets are in the local stores; what's the use? playmobil already does that.
If it means a magazine a few times a year; what will the contents be?
If it will be another internet forum; what's the use?
Lego also has a club which produces free magazines sent to members or subscribers a few times each year. It is aimed at kids.

Reading the few bits and pieces Richard has said about the club, I think it's more 'what you can do for Playmobil, rather than 'what Playmobil can do for you'. I'm sure Geobra are very happy!

S_B - it won't be aimed at children and it won't be a forum. For the rest, wait and see (and you may not have to wait too long).
