View Full Version : Prehistoric equids?

Hey all, long time no see! How've you been?
Well, I'm still hoarding hippos and painting everything in sight...
And this time my victim is the new Schleich zebra stallion. Apparently I just can't leave well enough alone... I'm modeling the color on a painting by the great prehistoric animal painter Zdenek Burian, showing an animal only described as a "prehistoric horse" being attacked by a sabertooth cat. I'm thinking of showing mine as a Pliohippus - and I realize they're traditionally portrayed as your standard bay dun, but c'mon...
Anyway, this got me thinking: Other than the Bully Eohippus, are there any proto-equine models to be found?

Yes ! a really nice horizontally stripped primitive horse was produced by Starlux, I think it was an eohippus, I know mine has little claws instead of hooves!
And a made in china set of prehistoric/ modern mammals- bear, wild sheep, moose etc included a przewalski type animal, which I got back in late 1990's when I worked at West Mids Safari Park.
I also got an unknown maker rubbery type grey Tarpan horse from Germany, probably made in the 80's!
Im sure I had another eohippus as a wee boy, let me have a think!

There will be a nice tarpan in a short time, because i did ask Ana,to re-paint the Schleich Przewalski-horse into a tarpan!

Well, here is the tarpan, even when it is not pre-historic really, but extinct anyway.
I would love to see some more pre-historic horses too!

Bully has made a few in the past. There are a couple of them in the Rise of Mammals (http://dinotoyforum.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=collections&action=display&thread=691#) thread over at Dinotoyforum

Tiermann, Thanks for the link, I think it is time to start collecting prehistoric mammals, I love some of those figures, the birds especially, and some of the hoofed mammals, just the whole thing is cool and worth having in my favorites.

It's a fun chase to try and get even the more modern prehistoric animal figures. Most stores would rather carry the dinosaurs instead. I recently managed to complete my Bullyland prehistoric collection after years of searching, but it was totally worth it!

Willy, your Tarpan is superb! I'm actually doing the same thing, but doubly - one like yours, and one of the "new breed" reconstructed from the Konik Polski. (The only real difference will be the mane...)
